Work in Progress: Memoir, "When You Love Nothing, Love Steven"
When You Love Nothing Love Steven is a coming-of-age memoir, the sort that falls far beyond what we consider the male requisite. Through vignettes and illustrations, I sort through decades of friendships that fall inside what some would call too-intimate for “just friends,” what others in would define as the bare minimum in any relationship. When You Love Nothing Love Steven is my illustrated coming-of-age memoir. Through non-linear vignettes and old journals from Steven and me, I sort through learning how to love while enduring a childhood of chronic abuse. I started writing it at 34 when I felt haunted by my grandmother’s ghost, and it takes a turn when I learn the biggest lie she told me.
