Mary Candace Mize and I collaborated on the cover art for her creative non-fiction memoir, “Finding Myself on the River Amazon with Baggage.” The illustration is a gentle rendering of her old boss, Jungle Mike Tsalickis, a snake-wrangler she met on her post-college travels on her way down to Australia for a teaching post. He was bold, yet she felt a gentleness and love of the snake in him. Look at those hands! They are my favorite part of this painting.
