Hello, you’ve found my website.

My name is Tabatha Shaun Hansen.

I am a multidisciplinary artist in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The body I live in is mixed-white, with roots reaching into Spain, indigenous Mexico, Norway, Germany, Indonesia. My practices aren’t limited by medium, or subject, but rather are in devotion to love and surrender to the whole/hole. Ideas usually surface in my sleep; I work on them in my sleep and then bring them into a more tangible form when I’m awake.

In the studio, you’ll find painting series, works-in-progress, music, and so forth, going back twenty years.

Most recent in the studio is my audio series, When You Love Nothing, Love Steven. You are invited into my writing process, the part where I read the work aloud to hear how it moves through the air. I am releasing tracks as I edit each vignette.

As an independent artist, I self-publish and self-represent.

In the shop, you’ll find available original paintings and archival prints.

If you’d like to collaborate, send me an e-mail at t@tabathahansen.com.

To stay in touch with my work, subscribe to receive monthly letters and art in your e-mail, or become a pen pal patron and receive the letters and art in your snail mailbox.

Take care,

Tabatha

humans have said of my work:

"I love. . .the playful color, the openness, the nothingness, the beauty in the chaos, the strange paths and the what-ifs. The sense of going somewhere—don’t ask too many questions; you’ll see when we get there. And the overall sense of becoming. And then there’s the wonderfully weird shapes that make me want to contort into a good stretch." —C

“. . .there seems to be little concern for the outside world. You’re focused on the detail, the absurd of whatever you’re doing and nothing gets in the way of that.” —S

“. . .your paintings and drawings have an unusually sophisticated and refined sense of things, of your life, of this world, and you express it with self-made shapes and a reverence for open space and potent silence. Off-kilter composition, nested and hanging here and there.” —E

“Your art is like Penguin Cafe Orchestra, where there are deceptively simple motifs with meaning and emotion pulsed into them by dynamic and textural changes over time (over the course of one brush stroke or crayon line). This is intriguing to me because it asks me to pay attention, to take a moment and look, think, find the story.” —R
